General Info

Located in the heart of Gobō, Wakayama, Ramen Tambo offers a warm, cozy atmosphere that’s perfect for anyone craving a comforting bowl of ramen. This hidden gem is known for its delightful selection of ramen dishes, each made with fresh ingredients and served with authentic Japanese flavors.

One of the standout dishes at Ramen Tambo is their 塩ラーメン (Shio Ramen), a salt-based broth that is light yet rich in taste. The savory broth perfectly complements the tender noodles and is often paired with a variety of fresh toppings like sliced pork and green onions, making it a go-to choice for many regulars. Another fan favorite is the 黒たんたん (Black Tan Tan), which combines the creaminess of sesame with the rich heat of spicy chili oil, creating a mouthwatering flavor that’s hard to resist.

For those who enjoy a more filling meal, the チャーシューごはん (Chashu Rice) is an excellent option. Served alongside ramen or as a standalone dish, this rice is topped with generous slices of tender, savory pork belly, making it the perfect complement to any ramen dish. If you’re in the mood for something unique, the みそつけめん大盛1050円 (Miso Tsukemen) offers a hearty dipping noodle experience with a rich miso-based sauce that elevates the meal.

For those who prefer a light bite or a starter, Ramen Tambo also serves 水餃子 (Water Dumplings). These soft, flavorful dumplings are made with a perfect balance of seasonings and fillings, offering a delightful way to start your meal or satisfy a quick craving.

The restaurant itself is well-equipped to cater to a variety of guests, featuring a wheelchair accessible entrance and high chairs for families with young children. While the cozy interior creates a welcoming environment, it's important to note that the restaurant operates on a cash-only basis, so be sure to have your yen ready. Ramen Tambo also accepts reservations, making it easier for patrons to secure a spot, especially during peak hours.

Whether you're a local or visiting Wakayama, Ramen Tambo offers a genuine taste of Japan’s ramen culture in a friendly and unpretentious setting. The combination of delicious, hearty dishes and excellent service ensures that each visit is a satisfying experience.

What customers say?

“ I stopped in for lunch. The menu is so extensive it's hard to choose. I ordered the rich black tantan and the char siu rice. It was just the right amount of rich and spicy. Delicious. The char siu rice also looks simple, but it's delicious. It tastes even better with some sansho pepper! I'd definitely like to come back next time I'm in the area. ”

“ I love Black Tantan and go there often. It's a shame it's so far from my house. It's winter-only season for shrimp miso ramen. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by! ”

“ I was heading to Shirahama and searched online for good ramen restaurants in southern Wakayama Prefecture, and this place came up, so I decided to visit. Also, I'm not a fan of the typical "Wakayama ramen" soup, lol. I had already decided to go for the light shio ramen I'd seen in reviews. The restaurant is in a very tranquil location, with parking in front and next to the restaurant, and a large gravel lot a short walk away. I parked in the lot next to the restaurant, but it was a bit narrow and had two thick pillars, so you need to be careful. I arrived at 11:50 on a weekday Tuesday and there was a line, but we were called right away and seated at a table! Looking at the menu, I ordered the "Ume Shio Ramen" (880 yen) with my favorite pickled plums, and chashu rice (char siu rice) with your choice of rice for an additional 150 yen during weekday lunch hours. The chashu rice is 380 yen on its own, so it was a great deal. My wife ordered the "Miso Ramen" (850 yen) with small sardine rice, a winter-only set. The soup was as light as I expected, yet rich and flavorful, and the crushed plum paste went perfectly with it. Another distinctive feature was the noodles, which were so thin and straight that they almost made me think, "Is this really soba?" I found them easy to eat and really liked them. By the way, as stated on the menu, the noodles, pork slices, boiled egg, and bamboo shoots are all homemade. After finishing the noodles, I added the pork slices rice to the soup to make rice porridge. The pork slices in this pork slice rice are also diced, but they're quite large and plentiful, so I think it's great that it costs an extra 150 yen (almost the same price as a convenience store rice ball!)! I recommend going on a weekday if possible! ”

“ Michelin-starred ramen is definitely a high-quality bowl of ramen!! So, I headed to "Tanbo." The Tambo is right in front of the restaurant. There's multiple parking spaces, so it's no problem. The restaurant has a good balance of counter and tables, and it looks like it could probably fit about 16 people. This time I ordered the "Shrimp Wonton Salt Ramen" and "Jaco Rice." The saltiness was just right, with chicken and pork char siu. And the shrimp wonton. The shrimp wonton had a texture and elasticity that was unusual for a wonton. I would have liked to eat it on its own. It was really delicious. I never thought I'd be able to eat such delicious ramen in Gobo (sorry). Thank you for the meal ”

“ Seriously... This time, I ordered: ・Ajitama Shio Ramen ¥1,070 (tax included) It was so delicious I went at lunchtime and wanted to try the char siu rice lunch, but it was sold out and they had to reheat it... I didn't have much time, so I just ordered ramen The char siu rice looked delicious, so I was disappointed... It was my first time, so I asked the staff for a recommendation It was the Shio Ramen, so I ordered the recommendation The seasoned egg and char siu were really delicious Next time I come, I want to try the Tan Tan Men The parking lot was a little hard to find, so I checked the sign in front of the store to find my parking Staff service The atmosphere Thank you for the meal ”

“ The restaurant has an unpretentious feel, just your average food joint. I ordered the Shrimp Wonton Salt Ramen (1,300 yen), and the soup was rich yet clear, not too thin, and very delicious. The noodles were thin and straight. The toppings included shrimp wontons, chicken breast, and yuzu, and I was particularly impressed by the shrimp wontons. There were about three wontons inside, so much so that I thought they might contain shumai, and I really liked the texture and taste. This ramen is worth 1,300 yen. Apparently, it has been featured in Michelin in the past. ”

“ The chicken breast char siu was so tender I wondered how they managed to cook it, and the soup had a refined flavor. The bowl was deep, allowing me to enjoy the piping hot soup. Parking is available, and payment is cash only. It was perfect since I was coming back from fishing. ”

“ I went to Ramen Tambo in Gobo City. I usually get the salt ramen, but this time I decided to go with the pork bone ramen. The soup contains not only pork bone but also beef and other ingredients, and it has a complex flavor with a lot of oil. The meat was also delicious, so I'd like to try other menu items in the future. ”
